Introduction
The purpose of this document is to give guidance to approved contractors and suppliers who are engaged in the fire stopping of service penetrations in walls,doors and fire rated structures using the Astroflame air transfer plates and astro grille.
All service holes through floors and compartment walls must be fire stopped to prevent the passage of fire, smoke and hot gases. The key points for intumescent passive fire protection products are :-
- Prevent the spread of fire, smoke and hot gases through a building by containing it in the compartment of origin.
- Maintain the integrity of escape routes from a building.
- Reduce loss or damage to property from the effect of fire and smoke.
- Maintain pressure differential between compartments and ventilation channels.
The Astroflame Air Transfer Plate system
ASTROflame air transfer plate are Mild Steel louvered grilles designed
to satisfy all types of air transfer application in offices, shops, schools,
hospitals and many other commercial projects. Manufactured using modern
press machinery and production techniques the ASTROflame air transfer
plate are robustly fabricated from 2Oswg mild steel and comprises of horizontal
louvres set on an 8.5mm pitch with a 30% downward deflection.
Suitable for surface mounting in both door and wall mounting applications, the steel construction ensures that the unit is satisfactory not only forASTROflame Intumescent Fire Grilles but can also be used in standard air transfer applications, utilised with the wide flange border providing adequate clearance for fixing to the surrounding structure. Slimline and unobtrusive the unit offers a free area around 70% for economical selection and is readily available in a wide variety of sizes. Standard finish is Satin Aluminium .

Testing certification
Astroflame air transfer plate has been tested in conjunction with the astro fire grille to achieve in excess of 60min rating. On its own the transfer plate has no rating but can be used to give an aesthetically pleasing finish to any hole requiring a transfer of air.
Storage and disposal
Astroflame air transfer plates are to be stored indoors in normal room
temperatures. No shelf life is given as this product will not deteriorate
in storage.
