Introduction
The purpose of this document is to give guidance to approved contractors and suppliers who are engaged in the fire stopping of service penetrations in fire rated structures using the Astro FRA Cable Port
All service holes through ceilings must be fire stopped to prevent the passage of fire, smoke and hot gases.
Prevent the spread of fire, smoke and hot gases through a building by containing it in the compartment of origin.
Maintain the integrity of escape routes from a building.
Reduce loss or damage to property from the effect of fire and smoke.
Maintain pressure differential between compartments and ventilation channels.
The Astro FRA Cable Port
The Astro FRA Cable Port has been developed to provide maximum protection for cable penetrations and ease of fitting. In a fire situation, the intumescent plugs within the cable port expand and fill all of the available space with a fire resistant highly insulating char.
The fire is unable to penetrate the hole and the char is able to give the additional insulation protection to the wall void by reducing the chance of heat build up and the ignition of flammable structural members. The penetration in the wall also provides a path for air, thus creating heat loss and drafts, the fitting of a Firefly cable port reduces this problem.
Installation
Step One
Using a 60mm diameter hole saw, make a hole in opposite sides of the wall.
Step Two
Fit a cable port in to each side of the wall securing with sealant if
required.
Step Three
Remove end caps and pass cables through port, replacing caps to create
a tight seal around cables.
Sizes
The cable port is designed for single or multiple cables up to a maximum
of 10 cables depending upon cable diameter.
Compliance
Astro FRA Cable Ports are manufactured in the EU, meeting the highest quality standard in compliance with ISO EN 9001:2000 .
Fire Tests
ASTRO FRA Cable Ports have been tested to BS476 part 20 in an un-insulated
plasterboard wall construction for 120 minutes without failure in either
insulation or integrity.
Acoustically tested by Sound Research Laboratories to both BS EN150 140-3:
1995 & BS 2750 Part 3 1995.

Storage and disposal
For long term storage and ease of installation, it is recommended that the product should be stored indoors. No shelf life is given as this product will not deteriorate in storage.
