Introduction

The purpose of this document is to give guidance to approved contractors and suppliers who are engaged in the fire stopping of fire rated structures using the Astro Door Edge Guard System. All fire door assemblies must be fire stopped to prevent the passage of fire, smoke and hot gases and must maintain their integrity through out the life of the door. The key points for passive fire protection products are :-

The Astro Door Edge Guard

The Astroflame Door Edge Guard range is specially designed to increase the safety and security of occupants against fire, Smoke and Sound Pollution and to prolong the life of the door..

Doors in hospital suffer more than most from wear & tear resulting from high traffic levels and impact damage yet any door in a commercial or industrial building is likely to suffer from this loss of integrity.

With constant trolley and wheelchair traffic doors it is the leading edge of the door that suffers most from ‘porter damage’ which not only results in general damage to the door but also possible loss of the fire integrity of the door.

Astroflame have overcome this problem with their range of Fire rated Door Edge Guards which are available in various sizes from 40 – 65mm width and lengths up to 3m with longer lengths available for non-standard doors.

Door Edge Guards contain intumescent & smoke seals and have been fully fire tested up to 1/2 or 1 hours and eliminate the need for repetitive maintenance

Available in aluminium or PVC Colours up to 3m long & Widely specified throughout the UK healthcare market

Can be used to protect both leading & back edge of door & Impact tested to 200kg at 3.5 m.p.h and 50kg at 7m.p.h

Converts leaf stile doors to swing stiles

Standard lengths 2100mm - Longer lengths up to 3m to order.

Installation

Door edge aluminium

For single or double doors, leading or hanging stiles, ensure doors are hung correctly, on suitable hinges and that the right door has been fitted. If in any doubt please contact our technical department for help

In situ, mark off the required depth to leave a 26mm overall gap between meeting door edges If fitting profile of a single door 13mm to be removed.

Carefully remove door to a working area. & remove by means of a suitable saw or plane, the surplus door edge.

Cut profile and brush seal lengths to match dimensions of prepared door edges

Remove all sharp edges by means of a line file or other suitable fine abrasive Remove the brush seal

Fix the profile into position using the 12, 1 inch screws provided

Peel off self adhesive strip on back of brushseal and replace brush seal in door edge guard, pressing firm to ensure it sticks.

Re-hang door

Carefully remove door to a working area. & remove by means of a suitable saw or plane, the surplus door edge

Cut profile to length tomatch dimensions of prepared door edges

Remove all sharp edges by means of a line file or other suitable fine abrasive

Remove the brush seal

Fix the profile into position using the 12, 1 inch screws provided

Peel off self adhesive strip on back of brushseal and replace brush seal in door edge guard, pressing firm to ensure it sticks.

Re-hang door

NOTE:

If Edge Guard too tight a fit on door then put a leading edge on door edge by means of a plane or file.

Storage and disposal

Astro Door Edge Guards should be stored indoors. No shelf life is given as this product will not deteriorate in storage.
