ASTROFLAME FIRE RATED CLADDING SEALS

Introduction

The purpose of this document is to give guidance to approved contractors and suppliers who are engaged in the fire stopping of Cladding systems on buildings using the Astro Clad Ventilated Fire Barrier Seals.

• Passive fire protection products prevent the passage of fire, smoke and hot gases.
• Prevent the spread of fire, smoke and hot gases through a building by containing it in the compartment of origin.
• Maintain the integrity of escape routes from a building.
• Reduce loss or damage to property from the effect of fire and smoke.
• Maintain pressure differential between compartments and ventilation channels

Astro Clad

ASTRO Clad will create a fire barrier within the cladding preventing or delaying the spread of fire in both vertical and horizontal applications for 30 or 120 minute ratings.

The product has been tested in the most onerous combustible cladding designs. Tested to BS 476Part 20 East to fit designs are available to be fitted into cavities, retro fitting into existing cavities is possible.

Standard seals sizes available to suit typical cavities of 15 to 50mm wide and up to and over 125mm.

Installation

INSTALLING ASTRO CLAD - AFFRCLAD35 & AFFRCLAD75

Suitable for cavities ranging from 15mm up to 50mm.

To fit Astro Clad the release paper is removed from the back of the strip, the strip can then be positioned in the required position on the face of the sheathing board and on top of any breathable membrane.

Tacks should be hammered along the centre line of the exposed face of the strip at approximately 250mm intervals to secure the seal in position. The seal should be cut to the required length with a sharp knife and strip ends be butted together at the joins.

Fix AFFRCLAD35 at 250mm centres
with non combustible nails or screws

Fix AFFRCLAD75 at 250mm centres with non-combustible fixings (max 10.5mm head diameter).

Fixings must be along centre line of the Fire Barrier.

Ensure label side is facing out into the cavity.

Adjacent lengths can be butt jointed.

Ensure that the Fire Barrier can expand freely in a fire

INSTALLING ASTRO CLAD - AFFRCLAD5050

Fix insulation spikes at 250mm centres with non-combustible screws.

Push AFFRLAD5050 onto fixing spikes.

Fixings must be along centre line of the Fire Barrier.

Ensure label side is facing out into the cavity.

Adjacent lengths can be butt jointed.

Ensure that the Fire Barrier can expand freely in a fire

INSTALLING ASTRO CLAD- AFFRCLADPLUS+

Fix brackets at max. 500mm centres with non-combustible screws.

Push AFFRCLADPLUS+ onto brackets.

The bracket should be central and not penetrate the full depth of the seal.

Adjacent lengths should be tightly butt jointed together.

For cut lengths a min. of two brackets should be used.

Care should be taken to ensure the Fire Barrier can expand freely in a fire.
