Introduction

The purpose of this document is to give guidance to approved contractors and suppliers who are engaged in the fire stopping of service penetrations in doors using Astroflame intumescent sheeting & Astro protecta

All service holes through floors,doors and compartment walls must be fire stopped to prevent the passage of fire, smoke and hot gases. The key points for intumescent passive fire protection products are :-

• Prevent the spread of fire, smoke and hot gases through a building by containing it in the compartment of origin.
• Maintain the integrity of escape routes from a building.
• Reduce loss or damage to property from the effect of fire and smoke.
• Maintain pressure differential between compartments and ventilation channels

The Astro intumescent sheeting & astro protecta system

When activated by heat from a fire the intumescent sheeting material expands (intumesces) to many its original volume to provide an effective fire resisting seal in the aperture, to stop the passage of fire, smoke and hot gases.

Astroflame Intumescent sheeting & Astro Protecta tested to BS 476: Part 22: 1987, it is passed for use in either half or one hour fire door assemblies.

INTUMESCENT HINGE STRIP
ASTROflame Intumescent hinge strips are thin flexible strips of intumescent material designed for use behind hinges and door closers.

INTUMESCENT LOCK SHEET
ASTROflame Intumescent Lock sheets are thin flexible strips of intumescent material designed for use in and around locks.
Size 500 x 500 mm x 0.8mm thick

Installation

All products are easy to install and require no maintenance once installed.

When rebating for hinges increase depth by 2mm for the allowance of the Intumescent Hinge Strip. Cutting of the material is easy with the use of knife or scissors. Fit the strips tightly into the recess of the door and door frame. The ASTROflame Intumescent Hinge Strips can be drilled or pinned for ease of installation.

The ASTROflame Intumescent Lock Sheet is designed to be used between the lock and the door. This will compensate for the reduction in thickness and will insulate the considerable heat transfer through the metal lock. When installing the lock allow for the Intumescent Lock Sheet (some shaving of the door may be required). Use the Intumescent Lock Sheet to sandwich the lock between the material. The Intumescent Lock Sheet can either be wrapped around the lock or positioned inside the door, allowing enough room so as not to tear the material. Ensure that handles, spindles and lock barrels passing through the door are wrapped in the Intumescent Lock Sheet.

The ASTROflame Intumescent Door Closer Sheet is designed to be used between the door closer and the fire door. The intumescent material will insulate the door from the considerable transfer of heat from the metal door closer. To install the Intumescent Door Closer Protection, simply cut to the size of the door closer and insert between the door closer and the door.

Astroflame intumescent sheeting and Astro Protecta are manufactured in the EU, meeting the highest quality standard in compliance with ISO EN 9001:2000 . For fire test certification contact Astroflame Fireseals technical department.

Storage and disposal

Astro intumescent sheeting & Astro Protecta should be stored indoors.
No shelf life is given as this product will not deteriorate in storage.
