Introduction
The purpose of this document is to give guidance to approved contractors and suppliers who are engaged in the fire stopping of fire rated structures using the Astro Telescopic Letter Box System. All fire door assemblies must be fire stopped to prevent the passage of fire, smoke and hot gases and must maintain their integrity through out the life of the door. The key points for passive fire protection products are :-
Prevent the spread of fire, smoke and hot gases through a building by containing it in the compartment of origin
Maintain the integrity of escape routes from a building.
Reduce loss or damage to property from the effect of fire and smoke.
Maintain pressure differential between compartments and ventilation channels.
The Astro Telescopic Letter Box
The Astroflame telescopic letter box system range is specially designed to increase the safety and security of occupants against fire, Smoke and Sound Pollution.
The range includes models which are fire-rated from 30 minutes to 1 hour. Where relevant, particularly for multiple occupancy residential buildings, letterboxes have been fire and smoke-seal tested to BS 476 PART 22 for 30 or 60 minutes fire rating.
Our fire & smoke telescopic letter box also carries an Acoustic rating to 29db/Rw sound reduction criteria as outlined in Approved Document E for door sets. Tested to BS EN SO 140, Tested to BS EN 20140-10.
Standard lengths 2100mm - Longer lengths up to 3m to order.
Installation
Tape
template provided to door face checking it is centred and level.
Mark out sleeve and fixing holes
Drill and saw or rout sleeve hole using a 25mm Max router/drill
Drill fixing holes 8mm Max
Assemble letterplate into position ensuring hexagonal fixing screw is on the inside of the door
Tighten hexagonal fixing screws using 2.5mm key

Astro Telescopic Letter Box are manufactured in the EU, meeting the highest quality standard in compliance with ISO EN 9001:2000 . For fire test certification contact Astroflame Fireseals technical department.
Fire Tests
Certifire Approved- CF 255
Tested to BS 476 PART 22 for 30 or 60 minutes fire rating
Tested to BS EN ISO140 to 29db/Rw for acoustic rating
Storage and disposal
Astro Telescopic Letter Box should be stored indoors. No shelf life is given as this product will not deteriorate in storage.
