| Description When exposed to a fire Astroflame Intumescent Fire Varnish expands to create a fire protective barrier, insulating the timber surfaces from heat and oxygen Astroflame Intumescent Fire Varnish is an exceptionally clear lacquer for decorative fire protection of prepared timber and timber derivative surfaces. Overcoated with ASTRO FVO, its special formula provides a hard, durable finish suitable for panelling, boarding, furniture etc. For internal and external use on bare or previously varnished surfaces. Its clear finish enhances the natural beauty and fire protects new and previously varnished internal timber surfaces. Astroflame Intumescent Fire Varnish has good adhesion and can be applied over existing varnished surfaces. Preparation requires through abrading with wet or dry abrasive paper to provide a key. Wash down with warm detergent solution and rinse with clean warm water. Allow to dry. A sealer coat/overcoat is also available in Gloss, Satin or Matt finishes. For humid areas apply Astroflame Fire Varnish Gloss Overcoat (ASTRO FVO) over the Astroflame Fire Varnish (ASTRO IFV). Contact our Technical Department (see specification section below) for written specification if applying to maple or timber from other fruit tree species Coverage ASTRO IFV is water based and can be thinned with water to any required consistency but must be applied at a specific coverage rate per litre to retain the appropriate fire rating. Class 1 Apply Astroflame Fire Varnish
at 6.5m sq. per litre (150 μ wet). ASTRO IFV is overcoated with one coat of ASTRO FVO for normal locations and two coats for damp or external locations. Coats applied at 12m sq. per litre. Availability Astroflame Fire Varnish ASTRO IFV is available
in gloss, satin and matt in 2.5 and 5 Kilo tins. We accept any order size. Prior to application the contractor should contact the Astroflame Technical Department (see above) to obtain a basecoat application schedule. Fire Tests

Application Counter-sink and stop or seal bare Ferrous metal fixings and fittings. Ensure surfaces are clean and dry. Mix the base and activator components in ratio 2:1. Stir base and add activator slowly; continue stirring vigorously until a homogeneous mix is obtained. Usable pot life 1 ½ - 2 hours. Brush, roller or spray. Apply 1 or 2 coats of Astroflame Fire Varnish. After 12 hours (min.) apply 1 coat of the appropriate topcoat. Contact Astroflame for spray equipment advice. Maximum timber moisture content 18%. Maximum relative humidity during application and drying 8°C. Minimum surface temperature 3°C above dew point. Clean equipment with water immediately before and after use. Ensure adequate ventilation during drying. Compatible with most stains, dyes and liming wax. The use of acid fast wood dyes is recommended. Where other types of stains or stained varnishes have been used contact Astroflame's Technical Department. Health and Safety Astroflame Fire Varnish is a low odour, water-based system, thus making it 'user and environmentally friendly'
