These products are classified as low hazard.
3. HAZARD IDENTIFICATION.
3.1 COMPOSITION/INFORMATION ON INGREDIENTS
The products covered by this data sheet are based on continuous filament fibres made from Boro-Silicate E Glass (CAS-65997-17-3). The filament diameters are uniform and are well above the maximum size considered respirable (approx. 3 micron). They will not sub-divide into fibrils of smaller diameter. The fibres contain small amounts of complex organic surface dressings (e.g. starch based and PVA compounds). The fabrics are treated with a Firefly™ complex, coloured pigment and binder.
4. FIRST AID MEASURES.
4.1 EYE CONTACT.
Irrigate eyes if affected by entry of any material. Obtain medical advice if irritation persists.
4.2 SKIN CONTACT.
In the unlikely event of skin irritation wash affected part with mild soap and water. If irritation persists, obtain medical advice.
In the unlikely event of excessive inhalation of dust, remove the individual to the fresh air. Obtain medical advice.
5. FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES.
5.1 EXTINGUISHING MEDIA.
Use that appropriate to the surrounding fire.
5.2 FIRE AND EXPLOSION HAZARDS.
The materials will not support combustion.
5.3. PROTECTION MEASURES.
In a sustained fire the products will eventually degrade and will give rise to fumes and smoke. Appropriate forms of self-contained breathing apparatus should therefore be worn in such situations.
6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES.
6.1 PERSONAL PRECAUTIONS.
Glass textile products that are damaged or made friable should be handled with the use of personal protective equipment.
7. STORAGE AND HANDLING
It is highly unlikely that these products will give rise to significant amounts of loose fibre during normal handling and control measures will rarely be required in circumstances involving the fabrication of products from these materials. However, in accordance with good working practices, the production of debris should be minimised and the accumulation of any fibre should be removed by appropriate methods.
In the event of the fabric becoming wet and thereby slightly acidic in nature, personal protection equipment e.g. gloves, spectacles and overalls should be worn.
No special storage conditions are required on health grounds.
8. EXPOSURE CONTROLS / PERSONAL PROTECTION.
8.1 OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS
Workplace exposure to mineral fibre dust even of non-respirable size should be kept to the minimum
that is reasonably practicable and should not exceed a Workplace Exposure Limit of 5mg/m3 (8 hour
TWA) (Ref. 1).
8.2 ENGINEERING MEASURES
Dust levels are only likely to rise above the exposure limit if the materials are handled extremely vigorously or subjected to harsh mechanical abrasion. In such circumstances, the provision of local exhaust ventilation should be considered. Should this not be practicable, protective masks approved for use against irritant dust should be worn in accordance with their manufacturer’s instructions.
8.3 PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT
To reduce the chance of skin irritation during the handling of glass fibre based materials, protective overalls of a closely woven structure should be worn. Gloves, arm cuffs or barrier creams may also be advantageous in some circumstances. Emphasis should however be placed on personal hygiene, ensuring that hands and arms are washed with copious quantities of cool running water to remove any loose fibres before application of soap for washing purposes. Where there is a possibility of glass fibre entering the eye, suitable eye protection should be worn.

The fabrics are stable when used for the intended applications.
11. TOXICOLOGICAL INFORMATION.
11.1 SHORT TERM EFFECTS.
Entry of glass fibre into the eye will cause foreign body irritation.
Some people who come into contact with this glass fibre experience reddening and itching of the skin. Those who are subject to this effect are most likely to experience it when handling the materials for the first time. People with a history of skin complaints may be particularly susceptible to irritation and therefore should minimise their contact with the material.
INGESTION. Not Applicable.
Glass dust from the materials referred to in this Data Sheet is not regarded as respirable in view of the large diameter of the continuous filaments used and the levels of dust likely to arise from most operations involving the handling and use of the materials will be negligible.
11.2 CHRONIC EFFECTS
Carcinogenicity - Continuous glass filament is not classified as a carcinogen.
12. ECOLOGICAL INFORMATION.
These products are not associated with any known ecological problems.
13. DISPOSAL CONSIDERATIONS.
The disposal of waste should be carried out in accordance with national or regional directives - normally by burial in controlled industrial landfill sites.
All TBA products are labelled as in section 2 and transported securely wrapped to prevent possible damage.
15. REGULATORY INFORMATION.
No specific regulatory information is applicable to these glass textiles.
